What Participants Share
Real reflections from Malaysians in their 40s and 50s who chose to take their financial wellbeing seriously.
Back to HomeThese numbers reflect a quiet but meaningful commitment β from participants who showed up for themselves.
These are honest reflections shared by people who attended our programmes β written in their own words.
"At 52, I had always left financial matters to my husband. After joining the Holistic Wealth Planning Programme, I finally understand our insurance coverage, our EPF projections, and why our wills need updating. I feel less like a passenger in my own financial life now."
"My broker had been recommending unit trusts for years and I just nodded along. After the literacy course, I can now read a fund fact sheet on my own and ask proper questions. I don't feel lost in conversations about equity funds anymore. Worth every ringgit."
"My husband and I had never really spoken honestly about money β not even after 20 years of marriage. The facilitated sessions gave us a structured space to have those conversations. We came away with a shared worksheet and, more importantly, a shared direction."
"The wealth blueprint document they prepared for me was something I could actually show my children. It covers everything from my EPF to a rough estate plan. I was not expecting something so personal and detailed. The bi-monthly follow-ups have been a thoughtful touch too."
"I came in thinking unit trusts were too complicated for someone like me. By the third session I was comparing funds side by side using the workbook. The educator explained fee structures clearly β I now know what I have actually been paying for all along."
"Both my wife and I are self-employed, so retirement planning had always felt vague. The couples session helped us think through our PRS contributions and what we realistically need by 65. The facilitator never pushed any products β just helped us think more clearly."
"The session on debt strategy was the one I needed most. I had a home loan, a personal loan, and two credit cards β and no clear plan. The programme helped me see which to settle first and how to allocate my income more purposefully. I feel more in control now."
"I had heard about unit trusts but always avoided them because I feared making the wrong choice. After three sessions, I understand the difference between equity and balanced funds, and I feel comfortable discussing options with my financial planner. That confidence alone was worth it."
"What stood out to me was the estate preparation session. I had no idea what amanah raya, hibah, and wasiat each covered. Now I have a plan that respects both Malaysian law and our family wishes. The educator was knowledgeable and never made me feel rushed or pressured."
A closer look at how a few participants navigated their financial turning points β with the right knowledge at the right time.
Holistic Wealth Planning + Couples Session Β· Johor Bahru
Halim (49) and Shazreen (47) each had separate investment accounts they had never fully discussed. Halim was equity-heavy; Shazreen preferred fixed deposits. Neither approach was wrong β but together, they had no shared direction for retirement.
Through the Couples Financial Alignment Sessions, they mapped their individual risk comfort levels alongside their joint retirement number. The facilitated conversations gave them language for financial discussions that previously felt tense or avoidable.
Six months on, they have consolidated their retirement projections into a single plan and hold monthly financial check-ins at home. They describe the shift as less about numbers and more about "finally being on the same page."
"We had 21 years of marriage and two completely separate financial worlds. It took two sessions with a good facilitator to finally bring them together."

Unit Trust Literacy Course Β· Segamat, Johor
Wong Poh Leng (54) had kept most of her savings in an ASB account and a fixed deposit for over a decade. She had received unit trust materials twice from different banks but left both meetings unsure what she had agreed to.
The three-session course gave her a vocabulary for what she already owned, and a framework to evaluate new options. She learned to read a fund fact sheet and understand what sales charges versus management fees actually mean for long-term returns.
She reviewed her existing unit trust holdings with her bank advisor and made one informed switch based on the fund comparison workbook. She describes herself as "no longer afraid of the conversation" β a shift she values more than any specific return.
"I thought I was too old to start learning this. But the course was patient, and I walked out understanding something I had been avoiding for years."

Holistic Wealth Planning Programme Β· Johor Bahru
Kamariah (51) was a secondary school teacher with a good income but no consolidated view of her finances. She had EPF, two takaful policies she didn't fully understand, a housing loan, and children approaching university age β all managed in separate mental silos.
Across eight sessions, she mapped her full financial position for the first time. The insurance review session revealed she was over-covered in one area and under-covered in critical illness. The estate session helped her understand hibah for her takaful policies.
She has a personalised wealth blueprint document that she updates with her Sejahtera Hub advisor at bi-monthly check-ins. She entered the programme wanting "clarity before 55" β that is exactly what she came away with, along with a much clearer retirement target.
"I had been putting this off for ten years. The programme gave me a proper picture of where I stand β not just a list of products to buy."
